Yangju Byeolsandae Nori

Whlie mask plays around Aeogae (Ahyeon-dong), Gameundol and Sajikgol are called Bonsandae, the one passed down in Yuyang-dong, Yangju City in Gyeonggi-do is called Byeolsandae. It' s been said that the Yangju Byeolsandae began about 200 years ago by Lee Eul-chuk from Yangju who left theTtakttagipae faction, which was centered in Sajikgol, Seoul to settle in Yangju, initiating the Yangju Sandae, which came to be known as Byeolsandae. He is also know as the first mask maker in Yangju.
The Yanqju Byeolsandae Nori would be performed on festive days such as the Buddhe's Birthday on April 8 by the lunar calendar, Dano, Thanksgiving Day and as a ritual for rain. The Yangju Byeolsandae expressed the reality of life including conflicts between lovers, satires on noblemen, contempt and poverty that ordinary people experience in addition to a spirit of resistance. It became a representative Sandae Nori.
